Feeling a bit like the rag-doll of some spoilt brat, Marcus was nonchalantly dragged outside the pub on his arse. He could feel the ground beneath him, though just barely. Even the pain as he was pulled down the steps was numbed. At least it was some feeling. He’d sunk very low over the past few months in his ruse, but this seemed the most demeaning of everything that had happened to him since he’d come to Davenport. Even in a drunken stupor he has semblance of control, but now he was pathetically helpless and all hope of salvation was rapidly fading. He could only imagine the despicable tasks that Lorelei would force him to do to break him. Even to fake it, Marcus was certain that he would have to commit some heinous crimes. It was either that or… to live without thumbs… no healer had the power to restore such appendages as opposable thumbs. He would be of use to nobody. Perhaps he could have just killed himself, but that was a ‘sin’ in itself… Luthien would have never sinned. But the great knight was dead, shamed into non-existence over such a trivial thing and then exiled as though he were a reviled criminal. Luthien would have never have given in…

Marcus was eventually lifted over the shoulders of a soldier. These did not look like the regular foot-troops of the dark lord. Elite guards of the dark queen he surmised. Lorelei afforded them little respect as she ordered them about as if they were dogs. Marcus didn’t resist and was carried aboard the boat, knowing there was little he could do. He could feel his legs becoming numb again and, by the time they had reached the boat, all feeling had gone again. He could barely even turn his head to see where they were heading.
