 What a day it was...
« Thread Started on Jul 14, 2007, 4:35am »

It had been a very long road. The woman in the saddle sighed as she reigned the horse over to the side and over to a nice clearing. Better place than any for a break...and she needed one. Her poor horse needed a rest. Her pet needed time on the ground, out of his pouch.

And her rear felt like it was made of stone. Sigh...the glory's of the road, indeed.

She slid off the saddle, her seemingly huge body making this difficult...or should have. She looked down at herself with a grimace. It was one thing to adopt a disguise for safety...but to stay that way for day's wasn't just disturbing...it was starting to wear on her pride now. She looked about from her spot off the road and saw not a soul. Good.

With that, her eye's closed...and she seemed to melt. No...not the right words for it. She just...changed, minute details shifting back to her true self. Her hair once again was its honey-brown falling in waves to her rear. A once more than ample frame slimmed down to her actual form, not slim...more like healthy and ample. A smirk formed on her lips, weathered skin transforming to her regular tanned self. Only one thing hadn't changed...her eye's. Brilliant tri-circled eye's of green and gold. Once she'd been told they were fairy eyes.

Whatever...

There was angry chittering from her waist as Nutter's poked out his head. He looked about quickly, for danger or strangers, before climbing to her shoulder. Thank god she'd thought to wear her leather vest, or that would have hurt. Her regular shirt of linen just didn't save her from claws...ever. She adjusted her leather pants before walking the horse closer, tieing the rein's to a tree branch.

Nutter's jumped from her shoulder to the tree and promtly started scolding her. She made a face. "I know...this is hard on all of us. Least you get to sleep, lazy bones. I've been up for ..." She paused. It had been a while, hadn't it. More than a day had passes since she'd felt safe enough to sleep. She shooed off the squirrle so he could find some food for himself. They couldn't break here long...or they'd once again be sleeping outdoors and without shelter. Not a good idea this close to such a evil place.

She'd heard that at one time this country had been at peace. No longer, if the rumor's were true. Course, a fair question would be why? Why had she come here, puting life and limb at risk? With her gifts she stuck out far to much....no way to hide it either. She'd earned some fame as a performer, and to some even as a seer. This was a bad idea all around...and made less sense to her friends.

But...something drove her here. She'd give this feeling a day, maybe two, then move on to safer, and less dangerous, country.

With a sigh, and a fair amount of wincing and groans, she went and sat at the base of the tree. So tired...first thing she'd do when she hit town was find a nice Inn and buy herself a room. A cheap room, of course, to fit her disguise...but a room...and hopefully a clean bed. The idea of a bed made her hurt in all those places sore and abused by days on the road. No...First a bath, then bed. Sounded right...she crossed her arm's behind her head and leaned back against the trunk of the tree, eye's watching the clouds pass as she forced stiff muscles to relax.

The wind blew around her, the tree's leaves rustling gently above her as she rested. Her muscles might have had time to relax for maybe, five minutes, if even before they started to show signs of the onset of a vision.

The water falls gently into the pool below it, the trees are luscious green, though one can see beyond the trees that there is nothing but death for the old forest that once was. For a while it seems there is nothing worth seeing but for the beautiful haven of the falls, but then a dark haired figure surfaces from the smooth water in the pool.

The seer can see that it is a female, or rather, more feel it is a female.

There is a sudden loud noise from one of the bushes surrounding the haven and the head turns, for a few moments the seer can see the face of the girl, fear filling her eyes. But then the girl disappears under the water again and the vision of the beautiful falls changes to the sign of a blacksmiths.

The seer follows a figure downstairs, struggling against heavy arms that hold onto hers. Cheers can be heard below, and two figures are pushed into the room. The cheers stop and all eyes fall upon the two captives.

The vision ends as suddenly as it begun and Islene is left with a strong sense of fear and determination. A name is in her mind and she cannot shake the feeling that she must find the girl of her vision in reality.

Islene mentally braced herself best as she could once the signs of a vision hit. Then her sight faded to this new sight before her other self. Waterfall....she had to go over it all so quick, knowing she'd have very little time after to remember before the headache would take her. Where had she saw that place? She let it go, knowing it would come to her later, instead focusing on the girl now.

The girl must be important...or just another innocent in need of help. The fear...she had almost been able to taste it. What had caused it? But...it hadn't yet...not yet, if she could help it. The next scene was vastly different, supposing it would be in this town she had been heading towards. Not her usual jaunt then....the power's that be had sent her here.

Figures...Why didn't they just ask?

She could feel her body already tensing The name, not clear to her but burned into her mind. That was new....What the bloody hell? Ach...this was going to be a dosey of a ache. She couldn't see yet, instead forcing her eye's to close. "Come Nutters....we go." She could hear the squirrel skittering down the tree while bitching about the short break. Goddess help her...get on horse before.

She mounted up carefully, eye's shut still in that vain attempt to hold off the inevitable. Actually...not a half bad idea. Her horse only knew one command, taught to it by the herders she bought him from. "Water, boy....Find water." There...that waterfall had been the last they'd seen in a while, good chance they'd end up there soon. She pointed the horse back the way they'd come ....just as the pain slammed her right between the eyes.

She felt the squirrel on her shoulder, barely. Holding onto the pommel for dear life, head hanging down, the three walked down the road the way they came. Thankfully, it would be a hour off. Otherwise, she'd be of no use to the woman, other than be just another victim. She moaned, curling over the saddle and waited for the pain to abate.

The horse knew where the falls had been, the noise still echoed in his mind. They had walked right past the oasis the first time, but now, it seemed his mistress wanted him to find it for her.

A while later, back through the deadened forest, the horse found the oasis of the Nèamh Falls.
